SportsEngine Acquires TeamUnify

SportsEngine acquires TeamUnify, the market leading technology provider for swimming organizations, to expand footprint into swimming and product offering for timed sports.

SportsEngine, now a part of NBC Sports Group, announced today that it has acquired TeamUnify to strengthen its capabilities offered to swimming organizations. The entire TeamUnify team immediately joins SportsEngine and will continue to grow and support their 4,000 swimming organization customers.

“TeamUnify is, hands down, the best-in-class technology available to swimming organizations, and is the perfect fit to lead our expansion into the sport,” said Justin Kaufenberg, cofounder and chief executive officer at SportsEngine. “We are looking to add companies to SportsEngine that have a rich history of providing whole product solutions to a sport vertical, and TeamUnify is the gold standard in swimming. We couldn’t be more excited to have their entire team join SportsEngine."

Thousands of sports organizations have chosen SportsEngine to run their online registration, websites, background screening, tournaments, leagues, and mobile apps. Through these tools, clubs and leagues are able to drastically reduce the time they spend on administration by helping them manage, connect, and communicate with parents, fans, and athletes. More than half a million teams, clubs, leagues, and associations around the world are powered by SportsEngine, including the PGA, USA Hockey and the United Soccer League. The Minneapolis based company also provides its services to teams across Major League Soccer, NBA, MLB, and NHL.

"This is the perfect time for TeamUnify to join forces with SportsEngine to tap into their resources and further accelerate our growth” said Tom Fristoe, founder and chief executive officer at TeamUnify. “Our singular focus on swimming has delivered unrivaled technical and operational improvements for swim teams to run their business better. With SportsEngine, we’ll be able to continue that focus and benefit from deeper integration with their platform.”

Mr. Fristoe will continue to lead TeamUnify from their Bend, OR headquarters. TeamUnify will continue to develop and support their entire suite of products which actively service 4,000 swimming clubs and nearly 1,000,000 active members.

“We’re actively working to expand our whole product solutions to additional team sports” added Angie Franks, chief marketing officer at SportsEngine. “We look forward to not only serving youth sports organizations in swimming, but from a product perspective, strengthening our capabilities in the timed sports category. This is an incredibly important acquisition for many reasons.”
