TeamUnify and Google’s Mobile-Friendly Algorithm Update

You may have heard the news from Google. We want to share our understanding and perspective of how this change will affect your team’s Google search rankings.

 

Things to know about the changes:

  • Google has released an Algorithm Update that affects searches initiated from mobile devices. Meaning only Google searches from mobile phones.
  • TeamUnify is very aware and is continuously working to improve your results.
  • There is no reason to be alarmed. We are aware of the changes and we are here to help you understand what is going on.

 

Some finer details:

  • Only searches performed on a mobile device, not tablets or desktops, will be affected.
  • What is defined as a “Mobile Device”? A handheld device, like mobile phones.
  • The information contained in your TeamUnify website will generate great search results even while your site is not yet mobile optimized. 
  • Narrow and specific Google searches will point to your team. For example, “swimming + your city/town name” will continue to rank well.
  • Almost all TeamUnify team sites appear in the first ten search results on Google when searching for “swimming” and “your hometown”. 
  • The TeamUnify technology platform will be engineered to be mobile optimized in the future.

  1. Is myTeamUnify Team website mobile optimized?
    1. Not yet. Until we are, remember this change from Google only affects searches performed from a mobile device, not tablets or desktop computers.
  2. What if a search is performed from a tablet or desktop computer?
    1. Nothing has changed for search results performed on tablets or desktops.
  3. Does the information on myTeamUnify team website matter?
    1. Absolutely! The content within your team website will hold your site high in Google searches, even when initiated on a mobile device.
  4. Knowing my currentTeamUnify team website is not mobile-friendly, is there anything I should do differently right now to improve my mobile device rankings?
    1. Yes! Content, content, content. The information contained on your TeamUnify website has and will always help improve your team’s search results.
    2. Relevant internal and external links as well as strong content included in your TeamUnify site help to strengthen your Google rankings. 
  5. Should I expect my search results to be affected negatively?
    1. Google released this search algorithm update on April 21st, 2015. If your search ranking does change, which it may not, it will be visible in the next couple of weeks.
    2. It’s possible that your search ranking will not be affected. To help preserve your current ranking, work to improve the relevant information across your entire team website.
  6. When will my TeamUnify website be mobile-friendly?
    1. First, we are working to define the best approach to making the entire TeamUnify platform mobile-friendly. This discovery process is underway now. 
    2. Once a technical plan is finished, we can estimate the engineering time required and we will keep you in the loop.
    3. This is an important, long-term project that we want to perfect for you and will keep you informed of our progress.
  7. How do I know how much traffic my site is receiving?
    1. It is simple to implement Google Analytics into your team website and gives you mountains of useful information to see who is visiting your site and what they are doing while on your site. See our Knowledge Base article on how to set up Google Analytics on your TeamUnify site.
  8. How will you rank against your competition?
    1. TeamUnify sites and swimming sites in general have a high search specification and a low search result competition. Almost all TeamUnify team sites show up in the first ten search results when searching for “swimming” and your home town. Also, TeamUnify teams see higher search results and traffic from being a part of the TeamUnify system.
